What conditions do chiropractors treat?

Does chiropractic treatment require a referral from an MD?

Yes, chiropractic treatment is most definitely beneficial to children. Chiropractor care can be modified to the needs of the individual, so in the case of children, treatment is gentle and very effective. Many children are active in sports and have other related injuries, so this type of treatment can help.
What type of education and training do chiropractors have?
Requirements for chiropractic education are one of the strictest in the nature of health care professionals. Chiropractors study with an emphasis on musculoskeletal treatment, but are knowledgeable as a primary contact health care professional. With up to four year of undergraduate pre-medical college education, together with courses like chemistry, physics and biology, the demands are even higher for the studying chiropractic once accepting into an accredited college.
How is a chiropractic adjustment performed?
Adjustments are usually performed manually using the hands and is very gentle and tailored to the specific needs of the patient. Manual adjustments include manipulating the spine, and joints to help with pain management and very often provide immediate relief for the patient.
Is chiropractic treatment ongoing?
Following an examination, the chiropractor will discuss the individual needs of continued care with patient, and in some cases, ongoing treatment is required. Some conditions can even be administered through self-care at home.
Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted?
Similar to cracking of the knuckles, joint adjustment is when there is a gas bubble being released by the pressure of the adjustment. There is typically no pain involved in the adjustment.
